Can we please stop this Jezebel war? I get it - a lot of people are upset that the whole gif controversy temporarily cost us image uploads and feel like they were fanning the flames with that Disney post. Groupthink authors can sometimes pile on, etc.
I literally could not care less about any of this. I just want to get back to cars and stop these "call to arms" posts.

Yeah, bunch of silly people. They don't come over here and post about how much they hate us, why do it to them?

that thread about the Disney post that was shared to GT is causing some discontent apparently. I think a lot of people here aren't used to arguing about social issues, whereas GT has a lot of that, so when they mix peoples comments can get misconstrued.

I wish jez would just not be mentioned here if people get so upset about it. I never found a big problem with them but apparently oppo as a whole is pretty incompatible with them.

There was a thread about my sharing it to GT? Or the threads on that post itself.
I'm asking because I shared it, and I shared it cautiously after it was initially shared cold.

If there are concerns, I would love to speak to them, and the expectation here has always been to behave like adults, and to not attack other spaces or commenters.

I feel the same way. Their content doesn't interest me but they certainly have a right to exist/make posts about whatever. But some people take it personally. It's just not a good look for us as a group.

Yeah I feel it's just not worth having jez posts suggested at the top of the page and stuff like that. I just ignore what I don't like but it still ends up with reaction posts and baiting the commentors over there. I mentioned this a couple days back but people misconstrued it as me having hate for jez so I took that down.

Both, kinda. I'm not going to call people out but you'll see the posts on Oppo from the last hour or so. I don't think anyone was attacked, really, but some weren't expecting their comments to be met with sometimes-strong responses from GT authors .

Just as an aside. Think of Jalopnik and Jezebel as brother and sister. They are connected. And for the foreseeable future, will remain so. And as their respective offtopic blogs, we will be connected in some fashion as well. Just not as directly, other than shared readership.
It's quite rare when topics are shared between the groups, but there is overlap, and when there is, that is the perfect time to share discussions. Additionally, both spaces have almost identical rules governing the behavior of the commenters.
The recommended stories / click bait thing on the main page will always have the most popular stories across all of the US Gawker pages. We're a bit of an island here on oppo, but we get visitors, and sometimes those visitors stay. And often we're all the better for it.
I love this space. It's meaningful, it's fun, it's lighthearted, it's capable of helping others, and I feel a sense of obligation to it.

I'll be honest. We are technically a public space. Anything anyone says here can be found pretty easily (often by googling). If they say things on a post that directly concerns and is talking about another public space, and people from that space come over to talk about it. This shouldn't be too surprising.
I was very careful with how it was shared. And after it was already shared by someone else, I wanted to share it in a more "constructive" manner and one which framed the conversation. But, I am biased. I belong to both communities...

I understand what you mean and have come to realise it's unreasonable to expect gawker themselves to seperate their blogs. It's just wishful thinking I suppose and honestly I think some enjoy the conflict as is the case on the internet. I just find it irritating when certain stories that are so severely seperate to our collective interests get linked and cause a fuss.
I think what I'd like to see is maybe linking articles more relevant. Similar to how the best posts of the day thing that gets posted on the FP and all the other blogs is. The posts are selected by relevance for that page and are often different for each blog. Again, wishful thinking.

Once upon a time, when posts were shared it was directly noted from which space they were shared from. I thought that was brilliant. But I would not be surprised if it did cause problems on the front page, it wouldn't be a stretch to think that some people wouldn't click on them because they were from "elsewhere".
I don't disagree that a lot of the time less is more. But those rare overlaps should be celebrated, and I guess I haven't had my optimism beaten out of me yet. =)

I totally agree with you. I originally wrote a much harsher post that was basically "stop whining guys" but I realized I should probably just detach myself entirely since I don't care about Oppo-GT cross posting (the more the merrier!). People need to understand that this is a public forum and you can't get upset because someone replies negatively to something you wrote, especially on a post that's not related to cars.
I think it also comes down to the differences in the communities - GT authors have a lot more experience in discussing those kinds of topics and are used to arguing in a pointed way (out of necessity), while Oppo authors have a little more of a kumbaya thing going on. They're talking about gender issues that impact their everyday lives; we just want to shoot the shit about cars.

Haha optomism is good, I just get caught up in all the complaints posts and such. I don't mind off topic when it's good for the community (helping people out with life stuff etc) but baiting and complaints is pretty annoying. I'll just have to get better at ignoring them and focusing on all the good posts.
